Home Remedies for Yeast Infections

There is an array of home remedies that can be utilized in treating yeast infections. You can mix such suggested remedies and work around it a bit. You can make use of anything you want as long as it is available.

Yogurt

You can start it take it orally or just add it in your daily diet, or you could apply it directly on the affected area. Yogurt is a known natural source of good bacteria called lactobacillus acidophilus.

Garlic

Garlic is known for its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties that can also be used for yeast infections. You can either add it to your diet or apply it directly on the affected area. It is ideal to use fresh garlic from the local market. You can eat a clove of garlic on a daily basis from the start of infection. You can also use garlic preparations like garlic capsules. You just squeeze oil from a gel cap and apply it on the area..

Avoid Yeasty Foods

You should steer clear of foods that are rich in nutritional yeast like brewer’s yeast. You must also stay away from taking dairy products and high sugar foods from your diet when you are in your yeast treatment for 1-2 weeks after the symptoms have subsided. Stop eating yeast-based breads and other baked foods that have natural yeast.

Tea Tree Oil

You can use tea tree oil as a home remedy for yeast infections. You can apply it directly on the affected area, making sure it is in a diluted concentration. It is a known antiseptic and may possibly bring about irritation to some women. You could also put a few drops of tea tree oil into a lukewarm bath. It is for external use only.

Herbs

Herbal plants can also be very beneficial in the treatment of yeast infections due to their anti-fungal properties. These herbs include Black Walnut, Camomile, Pau-d’arco, Goldenseal, as well as Licorice. You can take some of them orally, whie some of them are applied directly on the affected area.

Using some of these remedies in treating yeast infections are basic, easy, and also efficient. It is very convenient to prepare and is more affordable than those commercially prepared products available in stores.

I read recently that for about 25% of people with chronic yeast infections, eliminating sugar and starch items in the diet is necessary to aid medicine in eliminating chronic, recurring yeast infections.

How do you stop yeast infections from recurring?

Question by …Ms Independent…: How do you stop yeast infections from recurring?
I had a yeast infection in January. I went to the doctor because I wanted to take the pill instead of the cream which requires a prescription. Eventually it went away.

After awhile I notice right before my period I would itch only at the top of my vagina on the outer lip. I notice it was soar and saw what looked like little paper cuts. I went to the doctor and he said its normal for some women to get it right before their period.

I dont think this is normal and I wanna know if any women out there has had this problem and how did she handle it.

Hi – Well, your Dr is right, in a way. It is fairly common to have an occurrence of yeast infection before your period. You are going through hormonal changes and body changes that shift the flora of the vagina. A few things might help. No deodorant vaginal sprays, douches or kotex/tampons. Wear cotton underwear, Don’t wear a pad or shield all the time – it acts like a diaper holding moisture against your body. Use mild soaps that are not highly perfumed in the genital area. Don’t wear tight jeans all the time as that doesn’t allow air circulation. Sleep without underwear when you aren’t on your period. Try probiotics – or at least yogurt to help balance out your system – try to keep sugar under control in those days before your period.
The other thing you might want to be sure of is that it is yeast. There are other things that come and go and itch that should be ruled out. Good luck

Is glycerin a major factor in why personal lubricants and condoms would be giving me yeast infections?

Question by kiwi8: Is glycerin a major factor in why personal lubricants and condoms would be giving me yeast infections?
I (and my doctor) have ruled out many other factors that cause the “typical” yeast infection. Tight clothes, bathing suits, and etc. I also know it is a yeast infection and not something else. My immune system is not compromised and I am not on hormonal BC. Seeking solid knowledge that glycerin based products are causing this and others who may be sensitive to this as well. Thanks!
Great first answer!

That could be the issue. When I was 20 or so, my boyfriend and I used condoms and we got yeast infections.. I am still not sure if it was the lube on teh condom that caused it or not, but I try to be careful and only use Trojans now.

It sounds like you have already explored this already…but my best friend and sister in law cannot wear anything other than cotton underwear (doesn’t matter if its thong or what we call “full butt” underwear) or they will get yeast infections.

Also I get them if I use any other tampons brands besides Tampax – don’t know why.

Spotting Yeast Infection

Yeast infection to many is a taboo for a few people. They tend do swing away from this topic thinking that it is some kind of a deadly and contagious disease. You cannot blame them. With the yeast infection commonly affecting the private parts of women especially, it is understandable for a number of folks to keep their mouths shut. However, if you are a person undergoing such infection, if you have friends or family members infected, if you are medically inclined or if you are a concerned part of the community who has an open mind when it comes to things like these then you are very welcome to read on.

As previously mentioned, the usual ground of yeast infection is the female vagina. You might ask why of all other body parts why there. A few reasons would include the area being often constricted due to tight clothing, it is dark and moist. Just about the situations where bacteria thrives on leading to infection.

Unfortunately, symptoms of this condition is hard to be detected. The indications are similar to other diseases which masks the real reason which could be the vaginal yeast infection. Which is why, the best advice to be given is to see the doctor immediately. The physician would be the right person to identify whether what you are going through is indeed a yeast infection or another condition for that matter.

But to lead you through it, here are some of the usual signs that one may encounter because of yeast infection. The initial and most common of all is the itching sensation felt at the vulva and the vaginal area. This can result to burning stir within the affected person that can cause pain and sore especially during a sexual intercourse. Moreover, this can also affect the urination. It can be painful at times. There could also be noticeable discharges that would appear as thick in texture, white in color and odorless.

So you see, the given symptoms are general which is why it is most important to consult first with a health expert. The will be the one to diagnose and guide you through the course of treatment. The symptoms would also vary from one patient to another so you better be watchful.

What’s the connection between poor stomach flora and vaginal infections like candida? ?

Question by chewawa!: What’s the connection between poor stomach flora and vaginal infections like candida? ?
I’ve been told u can’t even eat fruit while treating vaginal candida.what’s the connection?

Answer by Martina T
Some foods, especially acidic foods, interfere with the absorption of oral medications. Grapefruit especially alters the uptake of many drugs. If you’re not taking oral meds though the only thing I can think of is that they would like you to have a lower glucose level to help get rid of the candida (it feeds on glucose in the vag secretions). I wouldn’t worry about it too much; however, eating yogurt with live cultures will help repopulate your gut with beneficial bacteria. Gross as it may sound, a little PLAIN yogurt with live cultures applied directly to the area in question (possibly at bedtime, then showered off in the morning) will help to get your vaginal flora back in balance as well.

EPD To Lessen Yeast Infection Burden

If you have been on the search about the possible treatments of candida caused infections, then you have several times stumbled upon solutions involving alterations in the diet. That is in fact true. One of the aspects that should be focused upon is the food intake of a yeast infected person. That is why, a London based physician Len McEwen, M.D developed a method called Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization (EPD) to put an end to this problem.

The EPD or also known as Immunotherapy is a fairly effective intervention for candida yeast infection. A patient is instructed to refrain from eating generally all yeast and sugar rich food and at the same time be medicated with anti allergy substances in diluted forms usually via oral drops or injections. This will boost their immune system and reduce allergic response. Through time, the EPD was further innovated and is now the new treatment called Low Dose Allergens or LDA.

Basically, the treatment goes like this. Patients will get three injections every couple of months which will run up to two years. The length of time will vary depending on the patients reaction to the therapy. But ten days prior to the first injection, the patients are supplied with an anti fungal intended for systematic candida called Spoaranox and an anti gastric ulcer agent named De – Nol that decreases the ability of the candida to multiply. Then three days prior to the first injection, the patients will be asked to go on fasting where they are required to shun the intake of all allergy causing food. To back up the treatment, supplements will also be taken in such as Zinc, Folic Acid and Vitamin D3 that will further enhance the efficacy of the EPD.

Bear in mind that the effectiveness of EPD is not the same in all patients. Others may experience immediate improvement that will eventually disappear in time while some will be in need of increased doses as a form of maintenance medication. Nevertheless, EPD emphasizes that the treatment is not permanent and only one dimensional since it focuses more on the dietary and allergic reaction linked to the disease. It is still recommended to treat the disease in a holistic manner. But the EPD treatment is still one strand of hope to full recovery.

Yeast Infection Drugs

Most people mainly rely on the prescription of doctors for medications that are set to cure yeast infections. They do this with the presumptive knowledge that they will be able to obtain relief from the constant and very irritating itch. They usually get the result they are expecting but only for a short period of time. They don’t really realize that there are many unstated side effects of using drugs for yeast infections.

Drugs for yeast infections usually just treat the symptoms and not the problem itself. They don’t target the main source of the issue. People do feel relieved when the effects of the drugs are kicking in but when the efficacy of the drugs wear off, they will experience symptoms that are twice as bad as before.

In recent times, drug companies do not really give a care as to how efficient their drugs are. They just ship out drugs for their own profit and do not care if their drugs are able to eliminate the problem or not. They just make sure that their products are being advertised to their target market and be able to make sales. If they really cared for their clients, then it wouldn’t be much of a problem for them to introduce natural drugs that really cure the source of the problem. Moreover, they rather promote products that give them a profit. If people are always at the mercy of drug companies then it will still take a long time before people are really cared for and treated.

The introduction of new drugs usually means that new ingredients are included to cure the particular strain of infection. This means that as recurrent infections occur more and more, the quality of medications needed to cure the infection should be much better than the one which has been used before.

Drugs also have certain effects to the body. When these medications are used over a long amount of time, they tend to compromise the natural resistance of the body to certain pathogens. In this case, people should work hand in hand with their doctors and not just self-medicate.
